Your Questions — Answered
What actually happens during a flooring inspection?
Our certified inspector examines your floor, with a focus on the affected area(s), using specialized tools and measuring devices (e.g., moisture meters, hygrometers, laser levels, etc.). The inspection may also go into areas that appear unaffected, for comparative purposes, and to ascertain more information about general site conditions. The goal is to get a thorough understanding of the problem, to help identify the root causes of your issues – not just the symptoms.
How long does a typical inspection take?
What is included in my Inspection?
The basic Inspection includes a site visit, photographs, and a verbal report of findings and analysis. This package is preferred by homeowners requesting a consultation prior to getting a new floor, trying to figure out what’s wrong, or exploring whether or not to pursue a claim.
A written report is available for an extra fee, which includes documentation of detailed observations and measurements, photo captions, comparison of site results with product specifications and/or industry standards, expert analysis, and diagnosis of the cause of your floor failure. This documentation can be used to support warranty or insurance claims, as well as legal negotiations and proceedings.
All site measurements and notes are kept on file for 1 year, so you can start out with a basic consultation package, and upgrade to a written report later should the need arise.
How should I prepare for an inspection visit?
- Bring a few extra/leftover flooring pieces into the living room, if you have any in the attic, garage, or somewhere else in the house.
- Make sure that there is no standing water / puddles on the floor, as the inspector will be crawling around on the floor to get measurements and photographs.
- Plan to spend 10 - 15 minutes showing the inspector around the house, describing your complaints and the project history. We don't need your undivided attention for the full hour, but it is helpful to have an opportunity to ask questions, and to make sure that we see what you see in terms of your specific complaints.
- Provide the inspector with any warranty information, care & maintenance guidelines, and installation instructions that you have access to, if you have them. (If not, please share the product name and number, as well as the approximate date of purchase.)
